The police detained 20 foreigners on Monday morning for allegedly residing illegally in south Delhi. They were later handed over to the Foreign Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) for allegedly not having proper documents to stay in the country.

‘No documents’

The police acted on a tip-off by the FRRO and conducted raids in Vasant Kunj and Malviya Nagar to find 19 females and a minor who were allegedly living in the area illegally. “Based on the input received from FRRO, raids were conducted. Over 100 police staff cordoned and sanitised the two marked locations and a total of 20 foreigners, including 19 women and a minor, belonging to different Central Asian countries were found to be living in India without proper travel documents,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chinmoy Biswal.

They were briefly detained and handed over to FRRO for further action, added the officer.

The police said that they’ll also take action against the owners of the property for allowing the people to stay.
