As many as 54 vintage cars that are more than 50 years old took part in the vintage car show in Pollachi on Sunday. The event that was organised in the town for the first time attracted hundreds of people from in and around the town.
Youth and families thronged to see the age old cars for the first time. The oldest cars in the show included a 1929 Triumph from Kozhikode, 1932 Little 9 from Palakkad and a 1935 and 1939 Austin from Pollachi. The four-wheelers were taken out on a six-km rally in the town in the afternoon.
They cars drove through Palladam Road, Gandhi Statue, Pollachi Bus Stand, Pollachi Municipality, Venkatraman Road and Coimbatore Road and kept the onlookers amused before stopping at the event venue.
President of the Pollachi Chamber of Commerce G.D. Gopalakrishnan, President of President, the Nilgiris Vintage and Classic Cars Association, R. Rajinikanth, Pollachi Classic Car Club that was founded by Rathinavel Rajagopal, D. Naveen and S. Senthil Murugan and others gave away participation prizes to all the participants.
Mr. Rajagopal said that they planned to conduct the show as an annual event at Pollachi on the last Sunday of December and make the event more attractive for the vintage car owners and the public who witness the event.
