A delegation of Tirupur apparel exporters left for Copenhagen in Denmark on Sunday to hold meetings with buyers from Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland) and Nordic Council of Ministers for expanding Tirupur Inc’s presence in eco-friendly apparels market in that region.
The trip and the negotiations were facilitated by the Danish Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises.
“We are going to make a presentation of the potential the Tirupur cluster has, to produce the eco- friendly garments, before the Nordic Council of Ministers.
“This is to impress upon them the benefits of fostering a business tie-up between the buyers from Nordic nations and the apparel suppliers from Tirupur knitwear cluster,” T. R. Vijayakumar, an apparel exporter and coordinator of Tirupur Thozhil Pathukappu Kuzhu, told The Hindu before departing for Denmark.
Green productionR. Girish, another exporter who is part of the delegation, said that the demand for apparels produced from environment-friendly milieu, also termed as green production standards, had been going high in Nordic countries in the last one decade.
“In these circumstances, the greater penetration into the said niche market segment in Nordic countries will help the apparel makers in Tirupur to get better unit value from the products,” he added.
The delegation would be holding one-to-one meetings with various garment buyers from Nordic countries between June 10 and 13.
