Teachers of Government schools in the district, where English sections have been introduced this academic year, will themselves prepare the education material under the Activity Based Learning (ABL) system for Class I students.
The material included cards depicting alphabets, animals, and nursery rhymes that have to be taught visually under the ABL.
For now, English medium classes having been introduced only for Class I, for which half the educational material remained the same for English and Tamil medium, District Elementary Education Officer T. Ganeshamoorthy told The Hindu here on Monday.
Class I has four subjects: English, Tamil, Mathematics and Environmental Science. Of these, the books remained the same for first two subjects. For the remaining two, he said orders have already been given for printing new books and they would be delivered by the end of June.
For Class I, the first month would mostly comprise rhymes and alphabets. The books would reach all the schools before these subjects were taught at schools.

Also, special training programmes in English handwriting would be held for teachers in all the blocks. Such training was held a few months ago in a couple of blocks. Also, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) would revive a programme to teach English to the Government school teachers with the assistance of experts from the British Council.
Further, Mr. Ganeshamoorthy said that the English sections had been started only in the schools with adequate number of teachers. The teacher-student ratio would be maintained at 1:30, as mandated under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.
