Police and railways department are taking steps to remove big stones and boulders from railway track to avoid them being placed on the tracks by miscreants.
Police said big stones and boulders were found at five places on the track between Oothukuli and Vijayamangalam in Tirupur and Erode districts during the last one week.
Some stones were thrown out of the track after hitting the cattleguard of the train, while some were removed after the driver alerted the railway department a week ago, they said.
Police and railway departments were taking all safety measures to prevent recurrence of such incident, they said.
K C Mahali Railway IG and P Shivanandi West Zone IG had inspected the spot and ordered to step up vigil on the section by deploying more than 300 policemen for patrolling and two special teams formed to nab the miscreants.
Police are also interrogating people in nearby villages in and around the area to get clue about the offenders.
