Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Naam Tamilar, Puthiya Tamilagam and a Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association staged a protest in various parts of the city and rural pockets on Monday demanding constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).
A couple of DMK workers attempted self immolation near the R.K. Mill Junction, Peelamedu, but the police overpowered them.
According to sources, DMK MLA N. Karthik staged a ‘rail roko’ agitation at the Singanallur Railway Station. Along with over 100 party cadre, he blocked the Salem passenger train.
Protests were staged at Gandhipuram, VOC Park Ground and at Sundarapuram. Six Naam Tamilar Katchi cadre attempted to block the passage of a Karnataka government bus.
Likewise, the police prevented six Puthiya Tamilagam cadre from entering the Coimbatore Railway Junction to block trains.
The DMK also staged protest in Pollachi. Police removed over 30 members of the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association that is affiliated to the All India Kisan Sabha when they staged a protest in front of the Collectorate.

In Tirupur, farmers affiliated to Tami Nadu Non-Political Agriculturists Association attempted train blockade agitation. At Udumalpet, 63 members of Puthuiya Tamilagam were arrested when they attempted train blockade agitation. Around 30 social activists, who were not having affiliation to any political outfit. observed fast at Avinashi.
