The 10-year-old school girl, who was abducted along with her brother on Thursday while leaving for school from home on RG street, was sexually assaulted by her kidnappers prior to the murder, said C. Sylendra Babu, City Police Commissioner, quoting a post-mortem report. Meanwhile, the police have arrested one more person, Manoharan (23) of Angalakurichi near Pollachi.
Mr. Sylendra Babu said that the two had confessed to having assaulted the girl sexually and physically tortured the boy. It is learnt that they tried to make the children climb a hillock so as to push them off from there. They also forced the children to consume cow dung powder (Malachite Green Powder), which they vomited.
The police have registered a case against Mohan, who was arrested on Saturday, and Manoharan under sections 363 (abduction), 376 (sexual abuse), 302 (murder) and concealment of evidence. Mohan, the prime accused, was produced before Judicial Magistrate-I L.S. Sathyamoorthy who remanded him to judicial custody till November 12. Manoharan is likely to be produced before the magistrate by tonight. The police team recovered the body of the boy from Gedimedu near Gomangalam by Sunday noon. The body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
Meanwhile, thousands of people attended the funeral procession of the girl on Sunday morning, which wound its way from her house on R.G. Street to Aatuppalam.
