Coimbatoreans are on a high for, in less than 24 hours, they will get to view the Pepsi IPL matches in giant screens at the SNR Sons College grounds here.

The excitement is more so for, this time around, the broadcasters - Multi-Screen Media (MSM) - will air the commentary in Tamil through its newly launched sports channel Sony KIX.

Briefing mediapersons here, Prasanna Krishnan, Business Head, Sony SIX and KIX, said the Tamil Nadu connection is strong as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is among the top teams.

“We have had commentaries in English and Hindi but the viewership went into different levels when we fed them with the regional language coverage.”

He said a special arrangement has been made for the IPL commentary in Tamil. “We have picked a team with the right cricketing quality. It includes Sadagopan Ramesh, Hemang Badani and V.B. Chandrasekar. They will be supported by two other commentators.”

First initiative

“This is Sony’s first initiative in multiple languages. If it succeeds then we may increase it to many more languages from next year,” he added.
