Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister S.P. Velumani on Wednesday concluded the 17-day homam he had undertaken for AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa’s return as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

At a temple near his residence in Kuniamuthur, the Minister concluded the ‘Aswarooda Maha Yagam’ with a poornahuthi (offering in fire) of 250 plates of herbs, sweets and food around 10 p.m. The conclusion of the homam coincided with Jayalalithaa’s birth star ‘Maham’, said sources.

He began the prayer on March 17 engaging pundit K.R. Veda Swaminathan and his team from Sirkazhi. The pundits performed the homam for close to 10 hours a day, starting at 6.30 a.m. and ending at 9 p.m.
