Five persons, including two children, were killed in a road accident here at Gundalapatti in Dharmapuri on Sunday.

The victims, Vijayakumar (31), along with his wife Nithya (25), mother Gowrammal (50) and his two children, Vishal (8), and Girija (10), were heading from Osinaikanhalli in Krishnagiri district towards Salem on the Dharmapuri highway.

According to the police, the car crashed into a median and then collided head-on with a truck on the other side of the road.

The police are unclear whether it was a case of speeding or sleep deprivation that had led to the accident that occurred around noon.

While the three adults were killed on the spot, the two children were admitted to the ICU at Dharmapuri Government Hospital, where they died.
