Lovers of percussion at the Geedee Auditorium were treated to the beats of Japanese traditional drums.

This is the first time that The Japanese Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan collaborated with ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI to host a mega cultural event in Coimbatore.

Promoting culture

“We are here to promote our culture and tradition. We have conducted Japanese film festival, speech contests and sports festival so far. We invited Bachi Atari, an alternative Wadaiko (Japanese percussion instrument) team unit from Japan to perform live here,” said Kayoko Furukawa, the Consul of the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai.

Institute

S. Shanmuga Priya, Director of the Japanese Language School said, “the Japanese Institute of Coimbatore has grown from a class of 17 students to 200 students in six years.” Three musicians, Tetsu Minegishi, Masashi Okawa and Yuhei Motoyama took the stage and presented the audience with an arresting performance.
