R. Diwakar (20) of Kothagiri and P. Ramya (19), known to be in a relationship, were found dead near the railway track in Ganeshapuram, near here, on Tuesday morning. The Podanur Railway Police said that the two, who had been in love for two years, had committed suicide by jumping to death before a speeding train.
The Police said that Diwakar and Ramya went to the Government High School in Kil Kothagiri in the Nilgiris district and had known one another for long. The girl pursued Diploma in Computer Science Engineering in a polytechnic college in Gobichettipalayam and the boy had discontinued his studies. He went to a Bengaluru college.
On Monday, the two had reached Ganeshapuram, where Rajan, Diwakar's uncle lived. But they did not go to Rajan's house. Instead they jumped to death before a speeding train. Their bodies were found lying near the track by passers by who alerted them around 8.30 a.m., the police said.
Quoting Diwakar's friend who lived close by, the Police said that they had resorted to the extreme step after there was opposition to their marriage. The police had recovered the bodies and sent them to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
