Coimbatore Corporation on Tuesday convened the first meeting of the City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), formed under the Swachh Bharat programme.
Convening the meeting, Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that the Corporation proposed to construct 52 sanitation complex and facilitate construction of over 6,000 toilets at houses that do not have one.
The CSTF will identify and decide the places for constructing the 52 toilets and also screen the beneficiaries selected for providing toilets at their homes.
The sanitation programme launched with Central and State government guidance and financial support will go on till 2019-2020. In the first year, the Corporation has planned to construct over 2,000 toilets. Those wanting toilets in their houses can approach the common service centres for submitting applications.
The Central Government provided Rs. 4,000 a household and the State Government and Coimbatore Corporation Rs. 8,000.
Mr. Vijayakarthikeyan said that the CSTF will also oversee the solid waste management scheme. It will also conduct zone-wise campaigns to create awareness among the members of the public on the Swachh Bharat mission.
CSTF includes a conservancy worker, sanitary inspectors, representatives of residents’ welfare organisations, college faculty, an industry representative and an NGO member.
The Corporation has asked the Councillors to present the number of community and individual toilets needed in their areas.
The Corporation is also conducting a survey in all the 100 wards.
The number of public and individual toilets has been arrived at after a study the Central Government did based on the data provided by the Coimbatore Corporation.
