The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Spectrum, which celebrated its ninth charter day on Monday, presented the Vocational Excellence Award to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and Coimbatore City Police (CCP).
Dr. Isaac Moses, Dean in-charge of CMCH, and P. Swaminathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Head Quarters) received the award in the presence of Venugopalan Menon, District Governor Nominee of RI District 3201 at the charter nite celebrations.
A release from the Club on the citations said that CMCH and CCP had rendered yeomen service to the society beyond the call of duty, despite their resource constraints and limitations. CMCH was celebrating its centenary while the actual birth of CCP could not be traced, since it had been in existence in various forms over five decades.
CMCH had various specialised departments carrying out life saving surgeries, serving the poor and the needy, who cannot afford healthcare in corporate hospitals. Every year, 150 doctors were getting trained at the institution. It treated around 5,000 outpatients every day besides handling an in-patient strength of 1,020 beds.
As far as CCP was concerned, it had successfully dealt with petty crimes and in containing communal unrest. It had effectively handled the latest complexity in policing i.e., cyber crime. It had always proved its mettle despite the growing complexities. Formed in 1972, the Coimbatore police was upgraded into Commissionerate in 1990 and the cyber cell came into existence in 2008 and had recorded 85 per cent success rate in resolving many complex cases.
Hence, departing from its tradition of honouring individuals, this year it had chosen to honour the two Government organisations, the release said.
