Coimbatore is emerging as an attractive destination for start-ups, product companies and business process management, says a senior official of NASSCOM.

K. Purushothaman, senior director of NASSCOM, told The Hindu here on Thursday that Coimbatore has over 100 software companies. There is a need to create visibility for these start-ups. These units should also focus on the opportunities available in analytics.

NASSCOM conducts technology-related programmes for the software companies here regularly and a HR conclave once a year.

Recruitment by IT/ITES companies this year is expected to be the same as last year. Companies start campus recruitment in September and go on till December. Companies go in for off-campus recruitment in January. This year, the recruitments have started off at the expected level. About 40 per cent recruitment for Tamil Nadu happens in the nine districts in the western region.

There are about 3.75 lakh employees directly employed with the IT/ITES companies in the State. With the high penetration of internet, e-governance initiatives and distribution of laptops by the State Government, several investors abroad are evincing interest in the State.

Speaking at the NASSCOM HR conclave held here on Thursday, T.V. Sriram, centre head of Robert Bosch, said that data analysis can be deployed to take decisions related to HR and there should be a human element while implementing it.

T.N. Gopal, professor, Anna University, spoke.
