The widespread rainfall received on Yercaud hills has led to the overflowing of various check dams.

The Yercaud hill station experienced sharp showers on Thursday night, leading to heavy flow of water into the channel leading to the Puthuyeri lake at Kannankurichi in the city.

Due to the repeated failure of monsoon, the water springs in different parts of Yercaud had gone dry. With Thursday night’s rainfall, all the springs overflowed. The fields too were inundated in the rainfall.

All the check dams across the channel leading to Puthuyeri lake are overflowing. The overflowing water has started reaching the Puthuyeri lake much to the delight of the farmers. A section of the farmers under the Puthuyeri lake system have already commenced the farm activities.

Thammampatti got the maximum rainfall of 50.2 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. on Sunday, followed by Kadayampatti 38 mm.; Kariyakovil 30 mm.; Mettur 27.8 mm.; Attur 27.6 mm.; Gangavalli 24.4 mm.; Pethanayakkanpalayam 23 mm.; Veeraganur 17 mm.; Sankagiri 10.4 mm.; Aanaimaduvu 10 mm.; Yercaud 8 mm.; Vazhappadi 7 mm.; Edappadi 6 mm. and Omalur 5 mm.
