With the help of CCTV footage, the police arrested two women

A four-day-old male baby, lifted from a private hospital on Thursday morning, was recovered within eight hours of the occurrence of the crime, police sources here said.

Police said that S. Pavithra of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Krishnagiri gave birth to the baby in a private hospital in Cooperative Colony in the town on September 28.

The baby was taken away by N. Kalaiselvi (23) of Oppadavadi village with the help of mother, V. Savithri (55) of Ikundam village near Krishnagiri, at around 5 a.m. on Thursday.

The two had used a cloth bag to take the baby out of the hospital.

Inquiry by the special team of police revealed that Kalaiselvi did not have children of her own.

Accompanied by her mother, Kalaiselvi went to the hospital on Wednesday night.

However, the incident was recorded in the CCTV camera fitted in the hospital.

After verifying the CCTV footage, the special team of police, led by Krishnagiri Town Inspector M. Albumen, arrested the two women and recovered the baby around 12.30 p.m.

The newborn was handed over to Pavithra and her husband Srinivasan.

Remanded

Kalaiselvi and her mother were produced before the court and were remanded in judicial custody.

Krishnagiri town police have registered a case under section 363 (kidnap) of the Indian Penal Code.

Further investigations are on.
