Chief Educational Officer N. Anandhi has ordered closure of 12 nursery and primary schools in the district which were found to be functioning without the requisite infrastructure stipulated for the operation of educational institutions.

Ms. Anandhi said that the closure order for the schools, located in Tirupur, Udumalpet, Alangiyam and Dharapuram areas, was issued on the instructions of the District Collector, as the managements of these institutions did not bother to improve infrastructure despite that the Education Department giving three chances for them to comply with the official norms.

All these schools began functioning in 2013-14 fiscal.

The Department officials said that these schools did not have adequate classrooms, play area, drinking water facilities and toilets.

Ms. Anandhi said that the scrutiny of applications given by students from economically weaker sections of the society and disadvantaged groups seeking admission under the 25 per cent quota allocated for them in unaided non-minority private schools would be completed within a week.

“The filled-in forms have been received both at the Education Department office and at the schools,” she added.
