BSNL strike from today

Published - April 20, 2010 12:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Over three lakh BSNL employees will go on an indefinite nation-wide strike from Tuesday against the Centre's proposal to sell stake in the state-owned telecom firm and plans to offer voluntary retirement to employees. Executives and employees are also sore over the delay in absorption of about 1,500 Indian Telecom Service employees in the telecom PSU, even 10 years after BSNL's corporatisation.

“We have warned the government against the implementation of the Sam Pitroda Committee recommendations that has favoured stake sale in BSNL and retrenchment of over one lakh employees,” said V.A.N. Namboodiri, convenor of the Joint Action Committee of BSNL Associations and Unions.
