Kids laughing jumped about in the playground, splashes of green brought alive the charm of the countryside, four generations of a family came together to watch their favourite television programme. Giving wings to their imagination, hundreds of school students vividly brought out images and scenes of the themes at The Hindu Young World Painting Competition held at Swarna Bharati Indoor Auditorium.

Around 450 students from different schools in the region and some from neighbouring districts and states took part in the annual painting competition. Differently-abled students from SMRPRC School, Vizianagaram, also displayed their talents and bagged prizes for their colourful presentation of the themes. The competition was held in two categories: seniors – Stds. VIII to X and juniors – Stds. IV to VII. The topics given to the juniors were watching TV with family, playing a game with friends, your favourite animal/bird, fancy dress competition in school and for the seniors the topics were visit to a museum, village scene, working on school project with friends and travelling in train. As the event started, the students unleashed their creativity and brought out a dazzling collection of soggy, just-painted pictures spread across the canvas. They went on a delightful journey into the world of images and colours. Finally, it was the overall composition, colour display and innovation in depicting the concept that won the hearts of the two judges - Prof. Ravisankar Patnaik and Prof. Sistla Srinivas of the Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University.

Applauding the efforts of the participants, the judges said that the standard of paintings was high and made it a tough task to select the winners. “It is a delight to see such fresh perspectives. The themes have been very well depicted,” they said and urged the students to keep fine arts as one of the career options.
