A student from Pudukottai wins State-level essay competition.

Meenakshi Sundaram, a Std. XI student of Mount Zion Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai, brought laurels to his school, when he came first in the State level essay writing contest on Biodiversity conservation.

The essay competition was held during the two-day national conference on “Conservation of Biodiversity for holistic development” organised by Loyola College, Chennai. Meenakshi Sundaram had written an essay on “Wildlife management”.

A group of select students from Matriculation, aided and government schools from across the State, scholars from different fields and researchers from neighbouring States participated in the conference.

Muthiah Mariappan, former Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, inaugurated the conference. Over 30 scholars and guest lecturers gave talks on various topics.

M. Selvanayagam, convener and director of LIFE, presented a cheque for Rs. 1,000 and a certificate to Meenakshi Sundaram at the valedictory function.

K. Thresia Mathews, organising secretary of the conference, congratulated Meenakshi Sundaram for his thought-provoking essay.

Meenakshi Sundaram was felicitated at a function held in the school recently. Jayabarathan Chelliah, chairman, Mount Zion Educational Institutions, who appreciated his achievement, assured all support to him for taking part in similar competitions in future. Florence Jayabarathan, trustee of the institutions, S. Ravikumar, principal of the school, offered felicitations.
