Roma beat Chievo 2-0 from goals by Gervinho and Mattia Destro to strengthen their second place in the Italian Serie A.

Ivory Coast winger Gervinho scored on 17 minutes off an involuntary assist from defender Bostjan Cesar, and Destro hit on 42 as Rodrigo Taddei sent him away into the box.

Roma sit 11 points behind Juventus and have a game in hand to be played against Parma. They moved six points clear of Napoli in the race for second place, which grants one of three Champions League berths without going through a play-off game.

Napoli welcome fourth-place Fiorentina on Sunday.

In earlier action, Ciro Immobile scored a hat-trick for Torino in a 3-1 defeat of struggling Livorno and moved to the top of the scorers’ list.

Torino ended a run of four defeats without scoring a goal, and are ninth with 39 points from 29 games. Livorno stayed one point above the three-team drop zone with nine games left.

Immobile improved to 16 goals, one ahead of Juventus’ Argentine Carlos Tevez. Juve visit bottom side Catania on Sunday.
