Have a start-up idea? Will work. As part of the Next Big Idea Contest that was recently launched in Chennai at Karya Space, organisers are on the lookout for India’s five most innovative technology companies who are looking to leverage their presence in North America.

According to Ankur Khera, project lead at Zone Startups, the organisers of the contest, “We are looking for globally scalable businesses with the appropriate market fit for the North American market. We are looking for a unique, innovative, digitally-based business idea that brings social and/or commercial value. The contest is an application-based process, where entries are evaluated on the basis of clarity of concept, innovativeness of the idea, development feasibility and the marketability of the product.”

As part of the launch, they are doing a road show in 12 cities in India.

In Chennai, they have partnered with us to facilitate the contest, says Arjjun Chander, founder, Karya Space.

The contest, which is underway, will close on September 15, 2016. Open to all start-ups in India with a globally scalable business model, it will provide winners an all-expenses-paid trip to Toronto, access to The Digital Media Zone at Ryerson University, a two-week bespoke programme in Toronto, and the opportunity to explore and discover Toronto’s Discovery District and special recognition at the Canadian Innovation Exchange.

The Next Big Idea Contest is a joint initiative of Ryerson University and the Government of Ontario, Canada.

Some of the past winners of this contest include Citrus Pay, Vidooly, Konotor, ShieldSquare, Survelytics and Plackal.
