Gone are the days when doors were just a requirement. With a wide variety of options in terms of materials and design available today, doors are becoming the pride of homes across the world.

Now Chennai homes can have a touch of Italian as Barausse of Italy has set up its first exclusive showroom of designer doors in Nungambakkam.

From standard wood veneers to sound- and fire-insulated doors, you are spoilt for choice. “Italy is known for its design and architecture. And, we want to introduce to the Indian market our speciality,” says Nazareno Barausse, president of Barausse.

Technical competence

The brand Le Porte di Barausse is a joint venture between Barausse S.p.A and Spacewise. Backed by technical competence and 18 patents, Barausse brings together unique elements spreading across its 200 models. Housed in the recently relocated Spacewise store, the bungalow-turned-store has furniture and accessories on the first floor and the Barausse doors displayed on the next. Contemporary Italian designs with clean lines and subtle tones encompass the range of doors. The doors are priced from Rs. 22,000 to over a lakh.

“The doors come in two options — hollow core and solid core. Wood veneers are the most popular among Indians. Though we are focussing on wood veneers,

we have other options too,” says M.M. Philip of Spacewise.

Moving from wood

While India has traditionally been a wood-loving country, sleek metal and glass doors are making their way into homes. “In India, people have always preferred hardwood. With our doors range in aluminium, glass and more, we are hoping to shape this segment,” adds Philip. The doors are apparently convenient to install. “We are bringing in the concept of pre-hung doors. Our doors are a part of the décor of a home. You can come to us for customised doors at the final stages of building your home. The doors are pre-drilled and takes about an hour to install,” explains Philip.
