Even as reported crimes against women and children are at an all-time high across the country, a discussion titled ‘Violence against Women and Children’, to be held in the Capital on October 4, will look at how pervasive the violence is - from homes to schools to streets to workplace to care and detention centres.
The discussion is in keeping with two campaigns being run simultaneously: the UN Women’s Ending Violence against Women and the UNICEF's END Violence against Children.
At the discussion, activists from different forums fighting for the rights of women and children and officials of UN Women and UNICEF will try to build on a growing public consensus that violence against women and children can no longer be tolerated and that collective action is required.
The discussion will be followed by the screening of a short film featuring community initiatives, including work with the police and non-governmental organisations in this sector. The event is being held in association with the Indian Women’s Press Corps at its premises.
