It was an evening to remember for the South Central Railway (SCR) trio, who had done the nation proud at the Guangzhou Asian Games last year.
Led by former Indian captain Tejaswini Bai, India had clinched gold in the kabaddi championship.
Backing the skipper in that triumphant campaign had been her national and SCR teammates Kalyani and Mamatha. Tejaswini had been decorated with the Arjuna award earlier.
At a recent function organised by the South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA), its kabaddi triumvirate were honoured for bringing pride and glory not only to the nation but to SCR as well.
Felicitating them were SCRSA President Pradeep Kumar, who's SCR's Principal Chief Engineer, its General Secretary K. Siva Prasad, who's Chief Freight Transport Manager and Secretary, Kabaddi, A.K. Singh.
Also feted on the occasion was K. Siva Prasad, General Secretary, who had been nominated as Head of Delegation of the Indian Railways basketball team, which participated in the 19th USIC basketball championship held at Verna, Bulgaria in September.
Watching his wards proudly from the sidelines was coach S. Danam Reddy, who had also coached another kabaddi Arjuna awardee, Neeta Dadhwe.
For over a decade, the coach has been training the SCR and Indian Railways kabaddi teams and is hugely instrumental in making South Central Railway the title-holder in the Indian Railways championships for six years in a row.
Kalyani, who broke into the Indian Railways squad last year, represented Andhra Pradesh for six years and like Tejaswini, is an all-rounder, good in attack and defence.
Mamatha Pujari, a raider, led India in the Beach Asian Games, besides representing the country in the SAF Games and the Asian championships.
