The idea of a snack has evolved from frugality to healthy. When fast food lovers resorted to sandwiches and burgers as an alternative to a whole meal, rolls too moved into the quick bites section of menus.

Rolls are traditionally toasted or deep fried. The crisp yet non-flaky plain or spice garnished paratha with rich stuffing makes this a lip-smacking snack. The fillings are made from a variety of ingredients and grated cheese adds an extra zing. Melted butter used generously around the layers to get the crispy toasted edges helps the snack slide down hungry throats.

While meat lovers can head for the regular chicken/mutton rolls with mutton keema rolls and kebab rolls (shawarmas), vegetarians have plenty of options too: sautéed vegetable, spicy beans, mushroom or paneer. The flavours range from Chettinad, Chinese, Mexican, Lebanese, Arabian ... with a multitude of options, rolls have become a compelling choice. There are a number of take-away and fast food joints that sell rolls. Frankie's has established itself with the largest number of outlets and Rollz also has a similar menu. Arabian Delights top the charts with shawarmas and Petawrap in their auto-shaped kiosk.

Rolls are on a roll. Grab one and get on the fast lane with the least damage to your wallet!
