A group of 25 boys and girls from the Mahatma CBSE School in the city chose not to sit idle after writing their class X exam. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign, they took to a cleanliness campaign during their holidays. Encouraged by their parents and teachers, the students conducted a two-day awareness campaign at Prasanna Colony, Avaniyapuram on prevention of mosquito breeding, dengue and general hygiene. Then they joined the sanitary workers in cleaning the streets, distributed handbills on cleanliness, provided garbage bags in the area and staged a skit and sang about the importance of a clean and hygienic environment.

The students also planted tree saplings and fenced them with a request to the residents to maintain the plants. The students believe constant nurturing and efforts will keep the place cleaning. They were backed by Maram Madurai and Blaack Forest bakery.
