Think big, heavy American motorcycles and Indian is one of the first names that come to mind for a biking enthusiast.

While competing American brand Harley-Davidson and Britain’s Triumph are more visible to the public eye on our roads, when it comes to long-haul touring and comfort, Indian’s Chief and Roadmaster are popular favourites. In India, Indian has been quick to introduce new models, and after launching their top end offerings the brand is now focusing on their more accessible cruisers. To this end, Indian recently launched the Scout Sixty in Bengaluru.

The Sixty sits just below the standard Scout in Indian’s lineup, making it the cheapest motorcycle the brand offers in India. Visually, it is strikingly similar to the regular Scout, barring some extra black body elements like the rear shock-absorbers. The main changes lie within the engine block, which is down 200cc and at 78hp, produces 22hp less than the Scout. It also features a five-speed transmission where the Scout gets six.

Take a look at it, and the long, low-slung Sixty is still perfectly capable of holding your gaze. The V-twin engine is tightly packed and the healthy dash of matte-black, particularly when offset by the pearl white paint scheme, add to its appeal. The bike is also available in thunder black and Indian Motorcycle red shades.

The Scout Sixty is an important product for the brand, as its relatively undaunting dimensions and output, combined with the lower price tag, make it accessible for customers looking to upgrade to a premium cruiser. It also undercuts the regular Scout by around Rs. two lakh, and while Polaris India Managing Director Pankaj Dubey confirmed that all bikes are currently brought to India as Completely-Built Units (CBUs), there is a possibility of local manufacturing being explored for the future.

The Indian Scout Sixty is now available for purchase at Rs. 12.21 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru).
