Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa , brings a feeling of nostalgia. After all, this show spurred a wave of talent hunts and gave us singers like Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala, Kamal Khan, and many more. Last few years saw the programme lose its prime spot to other shows and now its makers are ready to strike back. The first step in this direction took place when the audition for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa was held in New Delhi recently. The contestants between 16 and 28 years came from places all over North India including Lucknow, Kanpur, Mathura, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Putting the contestants through a gruelling test, the judges made them sing in different genres to gauge their sur and talent. In the first round they had to sing without any accompaniment or music which was followed by the round with music. Clearing the two landed them in the final round.

Salman Ali from Mewat, Haryana, who was the runner-up last season, was the first one to clear both rounds. “I have proved myself on this very platform but this time the competition is even tougher. The talent seen here today is remarkable. The young generation is more interested in such kind of reality shows and they really work hard.”

Aditya Narayan, who will host the show for the fourth time says, “ Sa Re Ga Ma has set a benchmark in terms of the quality of talent it has introduced over the last 20 years. We are in the quest for a new voice for the industry. This is my 4th season and it’s an honour for me. I am very excited to start shooting and interact with the new talent. This platform is a beacon of hope, giving thousands of aspiring singers an avenue to exhibit their talent.”

The participants for the audition came from different backgrounds and regions. Subodh Bisht, aged 27, works with a Gurgaon-based travel company.

“I am very excited but not nervous at all, I have seen many ups and downs in life. I have trained hard for the test and hope that the judges will find it hard to eliminate me here.”

Tanvi Praveen, final year law student from Noida came with bandaged foot. “I reached here at 6.30 in the morning, cleared my first round and also did my second round very well and am waiting for the results.”

Coming all the way from Mathura was Gunjan Dikshit, a B.Com final year student, who with her training classical music, was confident of getting selected.

The judges conducting the audition said that they were looking for natural singers who had a disciplined style.

Those selected will be invited to Mumbai to sing before the judges of the show.
