HYDERABAD: All good things begin with something sweet. Shubavsar is all about that, beginning with all things sweet and nice or maybe ending on a happy sweet note. Shubavsar at Banjara Hills, Road No 12, is a vegetarian restaurant with big sections for sweets, snacks, chaat and an Indian all day breakfast section.

The restaurant is the newest entry on the list of sweetshop-restaurants in the city. The eatery opens with a vast section of sweets, salted snacks plus a neat chaat section. The sweet section has a spread of imported varieties that includes baklava, stuffed dates, chocolate dipped dates and a variety of candied fruits as well. The sweet section besides boasting of the regular varieties has a special milk-jaggery section. You know they have worked well when you taste a rasogolla and find it spongy but not chewy.

The chaats too shouldn’t be missed especially because the accompanying mint, tomato, tamarind chutneys are made in-house add to the zing. However, they are honest about using packaged powders for south Indian breakfasts like idlis and dosas, sourced from what they believe is the best local brand.

The salted snacks too are a good choice for tea time snacking because they stock limited quantities and do not let old stock sit for long. These too are made in-house. The pav-bhaji and the dahi chaat are amazing and so are the other popular north Indian snacks.

The restaurant has a fully functional vegetarian eatery with a good buffet spread for lunch and a la carte for dinner. The most popular dishes on the buffet spread remain the stir fries, paneer dishes and dals. They have a wide selection of Indian breads. The eatery is yet to work on a thali system but hopes to introduce specials during special occasions and festivals.
