Unda Kuzhambu

Unda Kuzhambu

Unda kuzhambu is an easy dish to make for lunch. I learnt this recipe from my mother.

Ingredients

Toor dal – 1 cup

Rice – 1 tbsp

Tamarind extract – taken from a lemon-sized portion

Dry red chilli – 6

Sambar powder – 1 tsp

Asafoetida – a pinch

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Curry leaves – a handful

Coriander leaves – a handful

Salt – as per taste

Cooking instructions

Soak toor dal and rice for two hours. Grind it with curry leaves, coriander leaves and red chillies to a smooth paste without adding water.

In a kadai, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Pour tamarind extract into it and add turmeric powder, sambar powder, asafoetida and salt. When it starts boiling, make small balls of the ground paste and put into it one by one. Let it cook for five minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
