Students battled it out for the top spot at the The Hindu Young World quiz held in Visakhapatnam last week.

The heat was on the rise in Visakhapatnam. And so was the excitement over at The Hindu Young World Quiz that was held at the Kalabharthi auditorium on February 29. In the junior category, A. Aditya and M.

Nithil Kavin, of Std. VI and V respectively, of De Paul School were adjudged the winners with 92 points. Sailesh Patra and Akshat Kumar followed in the second spot with 67 points, and M. Sashank Soorya and B. Abhinay settled for third place with 53 points. Both teams are from Delhi Public School, Ukkunagaram.

S. Mrinal and E. Divya Sree Seshu of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan won the senior category with 112 points. G. Jhaswanth Naidu and K.V. Vamsi Naidu of Sanskruthi Global School sealed the second place with 94 points. De Paul School’s A. Anjana Srivatsa and B. Sidhartha Bharadwaj secured the third place with 75 points.

Secret of success

The winners attributed their success to teamwork, considerable preparation and consistent performance.

V.V. Ramanan, the quizmaster, asked questions from varied subjects such as history, chemistry, mythology, sports and current affairs.

In the junior category, over 170 teams participated while around 200 teams ensured their participation in the senior category. School students from Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Peddapuram among many other regions participated in the 16 edition of the quiz.

Prizes were given away by Amit Garg, Commissioner of Police. He congratulated the winners and praised the efforts of the organisers on giving young students the opportunity to learn, acquire knowledge and display their talents. T.V. Suresh, Regional Manager of The Hindu, and M.V.S.S.N. Srinivas Prasad, Regional Manager of the State Bank of India, were also present during the prize distribution.

The winners were awarded trophies, certificates and bicycles from Firefox, the national sponsor. All participants were given certificates and goodie bags.

The quiz was presented by Vellore Institute of Technology and powered by State Bank of India. Kokuyo Camlin sponsored the goodies.
