Deepavali, the festival of lights is a favourite among children. A four-day celebration across India this festival is associated mainly with sparkling lights and crackers. A few of the children spoke, sharing moments that makes this festival their favourite.
Wide variety
“Of course Deepavali is my favourite,” says Tanvi, a student of Upper Kindergarten in St Agnes School. She goes on to add, “I love bursting crackers the most.” Echoing this, Ashwini, a student of Std VI in Chinmaya School says, “The festival's best moments are those where I can burst many crackers and also choose what I want and when. The view of dazzling display of fireworks that lights up the sky is also my favourite. We come together as a community to celebrate. The brightness of the sky at the time is what makes my heart happy,” she adds.
Many diyas
“Deepavali is a time to illuminate the house with rows of diyas and also brighten up surroundings by lighting lamps of different colours, sizes and shapes,” says Hita, a student of Std IV in St Agnes School. She loves everything from lighting diyas, bursting crackers to eating sweets, wearing bright clothes and exchanging gifts. Ashwini adds that exchanging gifts is the most exciting part of the festival and she loves to be surprised by parents .
Boys will always be boys and the most exciting part is bursting crackers.“I love rockets is the spontaneous response of three-year-old Shaurya, from Priyadarshini Montessori House for Children when asked about his best moment. “My cousin and I eagerly wait to use those toy guns to burst small crackers,” he adds.
