The Indian Music Academy (IMA) of Mumbai, convened by Durga Jasraj, recently held its annual Big Star Music Awards function. For the first time, awards for classical music – both North and South -- were presented.
The South Indian Vocal Best CD Award went to Trichur V. Ramachandran and his daughter Subashree Ramachandran for their GNB compositions. Other winners were violinists L. Subramaniam and Ambi Subramaniam (instrumental), Bikram Ghosh (Hindustani tabla), Rashid Khan (Hindustani vocal) and Shankar Mahadevan (film music).
The glittering awards function was attended by legends such as Pandit Jasraj, Kishori Amonkar and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
