Disciplined training and pleasing tonal quality were evident in Deepika’s vocal recital featured by Nada Brahma Gana Sabha in Vanaprastha, Coimbatore.

Commencing her kutcheri with a Lalgudi varnam, ‘Neeve Gatiyeni’ in Nalinakanti, Deepika followed it up with ‘Sobillu’ in Jaganmohini. Her raga delineations for the Kalyani kriti, ‘Unnaiyallal’ and the Ritigowla piece, ‘Cheraravademira’ were strained in the higher sancharas. Her line-up included ‘Kanda Naalmudhalaai,’ ‘Theerthakkarayile’ and ‘Muralidhara Gopala.’

More evenness in voice modulation coupled with azhutham and verve in the presentations were missing. To reach higher planes Deepika needs to hone her skills of presentation. Brinda (violin) and Ragunathan (mridangam) were the accompaniments.
