The musical banker ...part 1

December 14, 2011 02:21 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 01:52 pm IST

On balancing his twin professions/passions, corporate banker and vocalist, V Shankaranarayanan says "it's like having two children..." A job with Citibank and a deep-rooted desire to earn a name for himself in the Carnatic music world keeps him busy round the year. His musical quest began at the six under Vaigal Shri Gnanskandan, a retired AIR producer and one of the foremost disciples of Semmungudi Srinivasa Iyer. Since then, his musical thirst has not been quenched. If he is not in office, one can spot him giving concerts somewhere someplace. When he does not do either of these, Shankaranarayanan is busy teaching Carnatic music to children. His musical ambition is beginning to yield dividends and this December season, he is reasonably booked with a fair share of prime-time evening slots.
