Consecration of Sri Amritambigai samedha Sri Avundiswarar temple, Nemam, near Tirumazhisai on the Poonamalle-Tiruvallur route, will take place on September 20. Built by King Jayamkonda Chola, the temple has shrines for Vinayaka, Subramanya, Kasi Viswanathar and Visalakshi, Virabhadrar, Bhairavar, Nandiswarar, Chandikesarar, Mahavishnu, Brahma and so on.

Legend has it that the sacred water from the amrith kumbh of creation was sprinkled on Nemam and the picturesque village hence stands for fertility and prosperity. Ravaged by time, the temple was in a dilapidated condition when devotees and local residents took it up for renovation. Dearth of funds slowed down the pace of work but the committee went ahead with fervour to complete the construction of the Rajagopuram, Gajaprashta vimana atop the Sivalinga shrine, vimana for His Consort and meditation hall.

Rituals begin today and will culminate in Mahakumbabishekam on Monday at 9.15 a.m. Mandala puja begins on September 21. For details contact 9840770248 or 9710422990.
