It was a pleasant devotional session where noted duo Varanasi Venkateswara Sarma and B Krishnamachari popularly known as Chaitanya Brothers, rendered an array of devotional compositions at Kalabharati Visakhapatnam. Being well-versed in Sanskrit, their phonetic accuracy delivered the emotive lyrical charms to touch a responsive chord in the hearts of audience. Studious tutelage under maestro Nedunuri Krishnamurthy made them focus on a nuanced presentation which has earned the duo a name in the music circuit. At the concert, they gradually built up the mood of the composition chosen, to render at a leisurely pace making each phrase both musically and lyrically expressive in its element. Sound grounding in the syntax of the idiom of music helped them grasp the quintessential aspects of its renditions which marked the fluid ease in its presentation.

The concert opened with Vandeham of Annamayya in raga Hamsadwani. With a sprinkle of compositions by Thyagaraja and Ramadas, it was largely Annamayya compositions that took the lion’s share of the evening. The duo’s rendition of raga Kambjoji for Emayya Rama of Ramadas was reflective of the training that Nedunuri imparted.

It was a kind of rendition that vividly brought out their flair for expression and brilliance of their manodharma. In their raga elaboration the core structure of the chosen raga stood well built in its melodic appeal and rhythmic precision.

Pibare Ramarasam in raga Ahirbhairavi, Srikrishna yanu nama mantraruchi of Amara Narayana evoked warm response. Nanati Batuku in Revathi, Paramapurusha in Behag were other notables in the concert. M Satyanarayana Sarma on violin, Mandapaka Ravi on mridangam, A Anand on tabla lent good support. Visakha Music and Dance Academy hosted the event in its monthly schedule.
