It is a pleasure watching young promising dancers perform with a flourish. Reflective of quality instruction at Nrutyavardini, by renowned danseuse of yesteryear Tekumalla Syamala, its artistes staged a sparkling Kuchipudi performance at Kalabharati, Visakhapatnam. Be it the delineation of subtle emotional nuances or vibrant footwork, the dancers displayed good talent. They showcased their remarkable grasp of the varied aspects of Kuchipudi. Whatever the mythological episode that formed the theme for delineation in gestural vocabulary, its various aspects of emotional quotient found remarkable expression in wide range of sanchari bhavas. The session commenced with Jayamu Jayamu, an invocatory. Replete with gracious gestures and decorous postures Krishna sabdam was danced with verve. The varied shades of fathomless passion of Gopikas for Lord Krishna and their inveterate yearning to be with Him found charming expression in coalescence with perfect work.
Siva Sthuthi was another number that showcased the budding talents at its best. Various aspects of Lord Siva's cosmic dance and its spiritual import got elucidated in the kinetic idiom of Kuchipudi much to the delight of dance lovers. Manduka sabdam, Lakshmi Pravesa Daruvu, and other items evoked good response. A sprightly Tillana in Hindolam capped the session. The noteworthy aspect of the session was Guru Tekumalla Symala's presentation of Kshetrayya Padam Evvade O Bhama! Vaadevvade set to raga Sankarabharanam in the cycle of Misrachapu. She presented it in the form of a demonstration for the benefit of the budding artistes, which gave the taste of classicism of the bygone era. Her elaboration of lyrical nuances for the line Purushudu, naa purushudu in an array of sanchari bhavas offered a peep into her expressional acumen. That even being a septuagenarian she chose demonstrate a demanding item for the promising artistes testified her penchant for instruction. Dancers Dharanani, Sulakshna, Bhavya, Kalyani, Nivedita, Kiranmayee, Bharati and Subbaraju took part.
