Postgraduate (PG) medical seat aspirants in Karnataka will be attempting a different Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) for the 2014-15 admissions. Instead of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the NBE will be conducting the test for admissions to the 50 per cent State quota. The exam is scheduled to be held from February 11 to 15.

From the academic year 2015-16, medical seat aspirants in Karnataka will join students from 10 other States in writing the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE) for admissions to both the State and national quotas.

While the 2014-15 test will be conducted online, the counselling will be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which will also be online. Another change this year is that only students with 10 years’ domicile will be eligible for the NBE-administered PG test for the 50 per cent State quota.

The test centres for the PGET this year are Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Bijapur, Tumkur, Hubli, Davangere, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gulbarga and Gurgaon (NCR).

Scheme of exam

The examination will be of multiple choice questions delivered online. The test comprises 200 multiple choice, single correct response questions in English language only. There will be no negative marking. The syllabus for the test will comprise subjects/ knowledge areas as per the graduate medical education regulations issued by the Medical Council of India.

According to the NBE website, candidates must arrive at their assigned test centre one hour before their scheduled test start time to allow for security checks, identity verification and check-in.

The reporting counter will close 30 minutes prior to the test start time. Candidates who arrive late will not be allowed inside.

Test takers are expected to bring to the test centre the following documents: printed copy of the admit card with photo attested by gazetted officer; photocopy of permanent or provisional MCI/SMC registration to be retained by the test centre; authorised photo IDs (PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, passport, Aadhaar card).

There will be an on-screen timer on the top right corner of your screen which will count down from three hours. Candidates are advised to check this timer regularly and allocate their time carefully.

A pop-up window will appear before the test ends to alert candidates. Candidates will not be allowed to leave until the entire duration of the test is up, with the exception of genuine medical conditions. A candidate will have to test on a pre-assigned workstation.

A practice test will be made available on the NBE website www.nbe.gov.in/pget/ptest to provide candidates with the look and feel, as well as functionality of the actual test.

Results

The validity of the result of the PGET 2014 will be only for the current admission session i.e., 2014 for MD/MS /PG diploma courses, and cannot be carried forward for the next session of admissions.

The results of the PGET are likely to be declared by February 28. The mark sheet-cum-result certificate can be downloaded from the website www.nbe.gov.in/PGET after the declaration of results.
