WOSY programme
Deepavali was celebrated with much fanfare by international students studying in Bangalore. The event was organised by World Organisation of Students and Youth (WOSY) in association with Presidency College. The programme was aimed at sharing the core importance and significance of the festival with students belonging to multinational culture and diverse ethnicities. More than 350 foreign students studying in different colleges in Bangalore took part in it.
B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, stressed on the need to provide an amicable environment for studies under Bangalore University. He spoke about the importance of understanding the diversity of culture and the necessity to learn and adapt to the changing new environment and promised all possible assistance from the university for the welfare of international students.
The cultural programme performed by students from different countries including Bhutan, Mongolia, and Afghanistan added colour to the celebrations.
Student visit
Twenty students from the University of Mandalay in Myanmar will be hosted by the Centre for Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB) from November 18 to 29. Their training includes pedagogy relating to various aspects of entrepreneurship, management of small and medium enterprises, and sustaining and expanding the financial and human resources of an enterprise, both in the national and in the global context.
While some of the students are working in firms, some among them also own businesses. Through the programme, the Centre for Public Policy hopes to expose the students to various aspects of doing business domestically in a given economy and more relevantly, in the international context, an IIMB release said.
IIFT gesture
Students of Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT), Indiranagar, decided to organise a special Deepavali function at an orphanage. The students cleaned up the orphanage, decorated rooms and lit up diyas, creating a festive atmosphere. The kids too involved themselves in the celebration as they showed their talent through skit, spot painting and singing.
Accept, Adapt, Achieve
NMIMS Bangalore organised an event recently called “Life is a struggle, if you can’t juggle” where Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit addressed the students of the institute. She focused mainly on how to ‘accept, adapt, achieve’ in a corporate organisation to strive towards success.
Keeping in mind the increasing number of women in the field of management, Ms. Purohit highlighted some of the problems which women face during their career and how they should handle those ups and downs in order to make their career hassle free.
National symposium
The Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering (NHCE), conducted a one-day national symposium and paper presentation competition, Business Acumen-2013, to provide a platform for students to display their thoughts on evolving paradigms in business management.
Arun Bharadwaj, Director-Global Alliances, Dell, and Chandar Sundaram, Consultant, NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Designspire
Adobe has announced the launch of Adobe Designspire contest for students across the Asia Pacific region. Open to all full- and part-time students aged 18 years and above, entrants must create an original design on the theme “What Inspires You?” using Adobe Creative Cloud tools and submit them online on the contest website. Entries close on November 22.

Bradman Scholarship
Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist announced at a special media conference in Bangalore the inaugural recipient of the Bradman Scholarship for a talented Indian cricketer to study at the University of Woollongong (UOW) in Australia. He had launched the annual scholarship programme in India last year in his role as UOW’s Ambassador in India.
The scholarship, named in honour of one of the world’s greatest cricketers, Sir Donald Bradman, is for an Indian student to study in Australia at UOW. The University has combined with the Bradman Foundation, a charitable trust established in 1987 to promote cricket as a cultural and sporting force, to offer its first international scholarship for undergraduate study at one of Australia’s universities.
The successful applicant is Shuja Khan from Hyderabad, who will start a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) at UOW in February 2014.

Art scholarships
Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT), U.K., has invited applications from mid-career artists, art practitioners and conservators for full term and short-term scholarships to study subjects related to the visual and performing arts including art management, curatorship, artists’ residencies and museum studies as well as architectural and material conservation in U.K. institutions/organisations.
