Pedestrians have requested the authorities concerned to construct an FOB connecting the Tambaram Railway Station and West Tambaram Bus Terminus at the earliest. At present, walkers use the subway connecting the eastern and western side of GST Road or a pedestrian signal located opposite a CSI church. They complain that the subway is untidy and crowded with traders. And, they complain of lack of discipline at the pedestrian signal.

At the pedestrian signal, a group of walkers stop moving vehicles, even when the pedestrian signal is not on, and rush to the other side. “It is an everyday ordeal for the pedestrians (on the western side) to reach the subway as the lane connecting the subway is crowded with people waiting for MTC buses, alighting from State Express Transport Corporation buses and autos, share-autos and other private vehicles. “The subway is untidy , home to beggars and vagabonds. Hawkers occupy the staircases and a portion of the walking area.

The poor condition of the subway deters walkers from using it. No wonder, pedestrians risk their lives by darting across the road,” pedestrians said. “The FOB should be constructed at the earliest connecting the railway station and the bus terminus for the benefit of pedestrians and commuters,” commuters said. Walkers have also urged the State Highways Department to see to it beggars and traders don’t encroach upon the FOB.
