Sri Divya is straddling both Tamil and Telugu cinema successfully.

Acting, it seems, runs through her veins. Check this: at the age of three, Sri Divya started out as a child artiste and starred in close to 10 Telugu films. “Actually, I have done quite a few roles in Telugu serials too,” clarifies Divya.

In 2010, Divya returned to celluloid, this time as a heroine, with director Ravi Babu’s Manasara in Telugu. Although, the film didn’t create any ripples, her next, Bus Stop directed by Maruthi and co-starring Prince, was a hit at the box-office. This was followed by Mallela Theeram Lo Sirimalle Puvvu , where her role as a lonely wife falling for a writer was critically acclaimed. “So far, this role is a favourite; I had tremendous satisfaction in essaying it,” says Divya. It also brought her a lot of recognition in the form of awards.

Sri Divya’s debut in Tamil was Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam ( VVS ) opposite Sivakarthikeyan for which she received positive reviews from critics. “In fact, I had signed on Kaatu Malli and Nagarpuram before this, but both have not yet been released. I am glad VVS brought me a lot of attention which resulted in my signing up for Jeeva with director Suseenthiran and for Vellaikaara Durai opposite Vikram Prabhu,” she says.

With a pretty good line-up of films, the new year is turning out to be a busy one for Divya. In Pencil , directed by Mani Nagaraj, she is pitted against composer-actor, G. V. Prakash Kumar. In Kaaki Sattai , directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar, produced by Dhanush, she once again teams up with Sivakarthikeyan. And in Eetti , directed by Ravi Arasu, she has Atharvaa as her co-star.

“In Kaaki Sattai , I play a nurse, and in Eetti , I play a middle-class college student. I am also excited about Pencil , where I play an emotionally charged Plus Two student. All these challenging roles have helped me explore different aspects of my capability as an actor,” says Divya.

Even as she is concentrating on the post-production work of these films, Divya is reading through scripts to finalise a few projects for this year. “Also, back home in Hyderabad, I have an important Telugu film getting ready for a February release — Varadhi with Kranti,” signs off Divya.
