Following the making of the short film The Picture earlier this year, the production unit of Monsoon Studios and director Hari did another short running to 15 minutes titled Mission Thiruvanmiyur . “Having screened this and gained recognition at various short film festivals across the country, we sent it as an entry to the Woodpecker Film Festival being held in Delhi in December and have been invited to participate in it. The best part is that Mission Thiruvanmiyur is one of the two selected from Tamil Nadu,” says Hari. It is about an old-age home and how some of its residents decide on an adventure outside the home without the knowledge of the authorities. It is a poignant look at the elderly who crave love and attention from their family members. Mission Thiruvanmiyur is edited by Sundaram with music composed by Surya Prasadh, cinematography by Vigneshwaran P and dialogues by Hari, Boopathy and Vinoth Nadan.
Horror-comedy
From Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru in 2009 to the forthcoming Illa Aanalum Irukku, it’s been a short but eventful journey for Rupa Manjari. During this period, Rupa has done three Malayalam films and one in Tamil ( Naan ). Illa Aanalum Irukku is a horror-comedy from first-time director Deekay who had earlier worked as an associate of K. V. Anand. Starring Kreshna, Rupa Manjari, Oviya and Karuna ( Soodhu Kavvum ), Deekay has shot extensively in the scenic Uttarakhand. The unique feature of R. S. Infotainment’s Illa Aanalum Irukku is that 15 new technicians are being introduced as part of the production team. Producers Elred Kumar and Jayaraman are confident that these technicians will make a mark for themselves after gaining hands-on experience from this film.
Adventure on the road
Here is a road movie involving a group of small-time crooks whose failed robbery attempt sends them on an escapist journey. Concocting this interesting fare, called Andhra Mess , is ad filmmaker-turned-director Jai with cinematography by Mukesh, a former assistant of P. S. Vinodh. “It is difficult to slot the movie into any particular genre because I have attempted to do something wacky. It is a journey of self-realisation for the four crooks. The journey starts from Chennai and ends in Pune with a lot of adventure and romance en route. An interesting aspect is the new style of music Prashanth Pillai has attempted; this will be a first in Tamil cinema, I assure you,” says Jai who begins his first schedule in Chennai on December 15. Pune will be the location for the second schedule, where most of the story is set.
