Shruti Haasan is excited about her role in the adventure-fantasy, Puli . The film, directed by Chimbu Deven, stars Vijay in a double role and Sridevi as a queen. Puli marks Shruti’s return to Tamil cinema after a two-year hiatus. The 29-year-old singer-actor, who was in Bengaluru for a store launch, shared her thoughts on style, music and Sridevi. Excerpts.

Could you tell us about your role in Puli ?

Puli is basically a fantasy film. I am playing the hero’s love interest in the film. The role is a very feminine, gentle, very likeable character. What was your experience of working with Sridevi?

My experience working with Sridevi was fantastic. I have always looked up to her and her career and the kind of work she has done so consistently.

And to see her work was even better because she is extremely professional and very, very focussed on her work. She brings a great calm and discipline to her work.

Do you prefer the small, intimate film or the big, special effects filled extravaganza?

I like small, intimate films. But I also like larger-than-life films.

It is a reflection of my personal taste. I like smaller, indie films with a sweet, simple message, or I love huge, Lord of the Rings kind of movies. I like to be part of all kinds of genres to be honest.

Do you prefer to be known as an actor or musician?

Neither actually. I prefer to be known as a performer or a complete entertainer.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style really depends on my mood and it changes from day to day. I am not very style conscious, as in ‘this is in fashion so I should adopt it’.

Today would be one of my casual days where it is just jeans and T-shirt. It is fun.
