Sri Thyagarajar, T.V. Varadharajen’s musical on the saint-poet, will soon complete 100 shows. And fittingly, the troupe is presenting it at at the Tyagabrahmam’s temple, Tiruvaiyaru. The two shows ahead of the centenary will also be performed in Thanjavur.

“History has it that Sri Tyagaraja enjoyed the affection and support of Serfoji, the Maratha ruler,” explains Varadharajen. The 98th show will be held on October 8 in Tiruvarur, birthplace of the composer. The venue for the 99th show is the Sangeetha Mahal inside the palace. Raja Babaji Bhonsale will be the chief guest at the event.

The 100th show will be staged on Oct 9, in front of Sri Tyagaraja’s shrine, Tiruvaiyaru. October 10 being Panchami, a special abhishekam followed by aradhana, and rendition of Pancharatna kritis have been organised.

The 101st performance will be presented on October 21 at Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, where the silver, golden and platinum shows were held. VSV has written the script with vidushi Bombay Jayashri taking care of the musical aspects of the play.
