The Congress high command has announced a list of 83 candidates for the Kerala Assembly elections, issuing the ticket to 33 sitting MLAs. Ministers K.C. Joseph, K. Babu and Adoor Prakash, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s loyalists whose selection led to a controversy in the State unit of the party, figure on the list.

Benny Behanan, MLA, known to be a close supporter of Mr. Chandy, who backed out earlier in the day. Candidates for Kalliassery, Kanhangad, and Payyanur have not been announced.
