Over a week since their launch, the three ambitious mobile apps – developed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and launched by the Election Commission – have barely managed to reach a fraction of the total number of voters.

BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, who is also the District Election Officer for Bengaluru, said all the three apps have only around 200 downloads.

The three apps are: Election Quiz, Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Reporting, and Election Officers Directory. Using the Election Quiz app citizens can check their ‘election quotient’ through multiple-choice questions. The app also allows users to share their quiz results and put them up on social media.

The Election Officers Directory app has the contact numbers of officers such as the returning officer, assistant returning officer, MCC officer, flying squads and EC surveillance teams, as per Assembly constituency.

The MCC Reporting app allows citizens to report violations of the election model code of conduct.

Mr. Prasad said the number of downloads so far was fewer than expected.

“We want more people to download these apps because citizen participation before the elections is also very important.

“These apps have a directory of all officials and they can report any violations to them. We are getting one or two complaints now, but not in a big way,” he said, hoping that the numbers will pick up closer to the elections.
