In Gujarat, the Congress may have to face the same fate as the Aam Aadmi Part (AAP) did in Punjab, if the party does not start taking grassroots-level campaigns more seriously, AAP's Gujarat Prabhari (in-charge) Gopal Rai said here on Saturday.
Mr. Rai said that in Punjab, the AAP was in a good position before the party workers became overconfident and stopped campaigning on the ground, which resulted in their loss in several seats.
"During our door-to-door campaigns in Gujarat, we have got a sense that there is a strong anti-BJP wave in the State, which might work in favor of the Congress," he said.
However, while the BJP had realised this discontent among voters and has intensified their campaigns, the Congress workers were nowhere to be seen, Mr. Rai said.
"None of the Congress workers are seen on the ground. They have this election in the bag, but might lose out only because of their actions," he said.
The AAP now has 10 candidates representing them in the State.
"All the past elections in Gujarat have been fought on the issue of Hindus and Muslims," Mr. Rai said.
